Deacon Ministry

The Deacon Ministry accepts the Pastor as head of the Church. The Deacon Ministry also, accepts the duties of a Deacon in accordance with the book of Acts, chapter 6. The Deacon Ministry expects the Pastor to have general oversight (knowledge) of the total church program. The Deacon Ministry will be loyal to the Pastor and assist his building a Church filled with brotherly love.

Deaconess Ministry

The Deaconess Ministry is an indispensable part of the Deaconship of the Church. The Ministry is composed of ladies of approved Christian character and piety. Three of the many significant purposes of the Ministry are:

  1. To assist the Deacons and Pastor in matters pertaining to the welfare and work of the Church.
  2. To minister to females in temporal situations which may be improper or embarrasing for a male Deacon.
  3. To serve as council of advice to the general membership. The Ministry was organized to establish and maintain personal fraternal relations with the Pastor, Deacons and congregation.

Ministry of Christian Education

The Ministry of Christian Education is the Teaching-Learning encounter through which persons become aware of God through his Self-Disclosure, especially his redeeming love as revealed in Jesus Christ and enabled by the Holy Spirit to respond in faith and love. The Ministry of Christian Education shall:

  1. Provide a basic program of Christian nurture that is effective at all age levels.
  2. Identify crucial personal needs and organize educational programs that will meet them.
  3. Recognize pressing needs in the community and seek ways and strategies that will contribute to solving the identified needs.
  4. Provide Church training sessions.

The Mission Ministry

The purpose of the Mission Ministry shall be to stimulate a missionary spirit in the men, women and young people of the Church by prayer, study of the missionary message of the Bible and world mission task of the church, engaging in assigned and directed community missions activities and by regular contributions to foreign missions to the work of the women's convention of the National, State and District.

The Trustee Ministry

The Trustee Ministry shall consist of not less than seven (7) and no more than eleven (11) members, The Ministry shall have a Chairman and a Secretary. Term of Office: A member shall be elected to serve for a period of three (3) years. S/He may exceed himself, if he is re-elected. Duties:

  1. Shall hold all titles to the properties, gifts and assets of the Church.
  2. They shall be advised of all legal papers in the name of the Church even when a purchase, transfer or sale has been ordered by the authority.
  3. They shall be the custodians of Church papers and titles.
  4. They shall endeavor to maintain or improve the property which as been given into their care.
  5. They shall arrange for all minor repairs to the building or building and shall advise the Church when a major repair/s or improvement/s seem essential to preserve the value of the property.
  6. Trustees shall be consulted in all matters involving money and salaries.
  7. The decisions of the Trustee Ministry shall be subject to approval, veto or modification by the Church body.
  8. The Trustee Ministry may spend up to $1000 dollars on Church repairs or projects. All repairs or projects totaling more than $1000 must be done only at the approval of the Church.
  9. Matters falling under the supervision of the Trustee Ministry that involve changes in policies, removal of Officers and members, indebtedness and programs may be presented to the Church body only after the Pastor and Deacon Ministry concur.
  10. The Trustee Ministry shall work in close cooperation with the Finance Committee in preparing the Annual Church budget to be submitted to the Church.
  11. The Trustee Ministry will receive requests for budget monies from all ministries of the Church through the Advisory Ministry.
  12. The Trustee Ministry will prepare and present a preliminary Church budget to the membership at least thirty (30) days before the business meeting each year.
  13. All such budget requests should be made to the Trustee Ministry by the 1st of November each year.
  14. The Trustee Ministry shall make complete, accurate and regular reports to the Church concerning conditions andupkeep of the church's property.
  15. To receive and count all monies and to deposit the receipts in the proper bank account along with the Finance Committee. The statements of such deposits are turned over to the Treasurer.
  16. A copy of the statements of deposits will be forwarded to both the Church Treasurer and the Financial Secretary.

Adult Usher Ministry

The Adult Usher Ministry serves on the 1st, 3rd and 4th Sundays. Occasionally, the ministry also serves the Church on outside engagements, at the Pastor's request. Meetings are held every Thursday before the 1st Sunday at 6:00 p.m. Our goals and objectives are to serve every member and visitor in the most professional manner. We try to ensure that visitors feel welcome and are comfortable. We gladly welcome new additions who are willing to work for the ministry.

Bus Ministry

The Bus Ministry provides transportation for members who are disabled, confined to the wheel chair, or for those who do not own a car but wish to attend the worship service and all other Church and religious functions, trips and social activities authorized by the Church & Pastor. The Bus Ministry also provides transportation to non members who wish to attend any Baptist functions of Greater Union First Baptist Church who do not have transportation.

Sunday Church School Ministry

Our goals are as follows:
To teach the Plan of Salvation -- Why we should and how to become saved.
To develop, improve and enhance spiritual growth through Christian education.
To assist in the training of Church etiquette.
To participate in Christian education activities in Greater Union, the community and the district.

Hostess Ministry

The Hostess Ministry provides the congregation, visitors and friends with a fresh and warm spirited welcome. Weekly Church announcements are an essential responsibility of this organization.
When requested, this committee assists various ministries of the church with general hospitality.

Laymen Ministry

The Laymen Ministry is a group of men who come together in Christian love and fellowship for the advancement of the Kingdom of God and support of the Pastor.
Responsibilities and Obligations:
To promote and boost the total Church program.
To encourage and enlist men to visit the sick, bereaved, delinquent, jailed, intolerant, alcoholic and drugged.
To encourage men to read and study their bibles.
To provide, supervise and finance a total program for boys.
To teach, train, recruit and inspire men to be evangelists and personal soul winners.
To love, cooperate, support, compensate and provide maximum amenities for our Pastor.

Nurses Ministry

The Nurses Ministry duties are as follows:
To aide the ill and injured members of the Church
To provide health education for the Church
To provide help for all Church and funeral services

Pastorial Care Ministry

The Pastorial Care Ministry aims to fulfill some of the needs of the Pastor. A group of believing Christian workers, men and women, with a willing heart, a mind to work and courage to face difficulties. The ministry is organized with the sanctions of the Pastor and officers of the Church. Having officers and members linked together for a common cause, giving of their substance, time, energy and talents.

Purposes of the Ministry:
To assist the Pastor with finances, prayers and encouraging words and actions.
To assist with clothing for special occasions, food, representative fees for special state and national meetings and encouragement by prayer for all occasions.
To assist in obtaining special books and materials that may be needed for services, sermons or special occasions.
To work with the Pastor and officers of the Church with special programs on special days. Assisting with love offerings, appreciation tokens, gifts and food.
To assist with different projects and activities in raising finances.

Youth Usher Ministry

Our goal is to work with our future church leaders of tomorrow. Not only to train ushers, but to learn to work together, pray, read and find scriptures in the Bible and togetherness in Christ.
During the summer months we do have outings and fund raising activities. Fund raising activities let us learn how to work for what we need and give us managing and personable skills (working with the public).
